Coronavirus (Covid-19) Update
Please find below the sixteenth edition of our Coronavirus (Covid-19) update.

We have provided guidance on what the government’s social distancing measures and gradual reopening of businesses and sporting facilities could mean for rugby clubs. There is also an update on the next phase of the future competition consultation review.

For those yet to take part, there is a reminder that we want your input in our rugby survey, which is open until 18 May, and there’s news too about next week’s Tuesday and Thursday webinars, and Eddie Jones surprising volunteer coaches.

Impact of current government guidance on rugby clubs
Following this week’s publication of the new government guidelines on exercise, we have developed some guidance on what this means for opening of playing fields and clubhouses on ruby club sites. Rugby activity remains suspended. However, if clubs wish to open their facilities, players may now engage in restricted individual training. Click here to access the infographic we have produced that provides simple guidance regarding individuals training at rugby clubs.

Each club should make individual decisions about when their facilities are ready to open and can be operated safely. Until a club believes it is safe and responsible to reopen, it should remain closed. Facilities that are open must follow relevant government guidance - click here to access the guide on steps to take when reopening your club house, based on current government guidance.

We will continue to keep the rugby community updated on developments as and when we know more about the impact of the government’s decisions on the community rugby.
Update on the next phase of the future competition consultation review
The postponed face-to-face meetings regarding the future competition consultation review will now be replaced by virtual meetings.

These virtual consultation sessions will take place via webinar during June so that we can provide further detail on the future competition structure proposals. Feedback on these proposals, and also on how to improve competitions is essential, and the virtual process will allow clubs and players to ask questions and enter a discussion forum.

Registration details will be communicated next week. However, you may wish to book your diary for one of the following sessions which will take place from 7pm and will finish no later than 9pm:

• 3 June - Level 3/4
• 4 June - Level 5/6
• 8 June - Level 7 and below North
• 10 June - Level 7 and below Midlands
• 11 June - Level 7 and below London/South East
• 15 June - Level 7 and below London/South East
• 17 June - Level 7 and below South West
• 18 June - Level 7 and below South West
Other Important Information
Deadline to complete rugby survey – Monday 18 May
To assess appetite and concerns for a return to rugby, we are conducting a survey of the rugby community. We would appreciate your views, as well as those of your members, to help shape and guide our plans.

This survey should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete and your thoughts will be invaluable to us over the coming weeks.

Please share with your members too. The deadline for completion is 9am on Monday 18 May.

As part of their programme of rewarding grassroots volunteers through its Volunteer Recognition Programme, England Rugby’s proud Performance Partner Mitsubishi Motors in the UK teamed up with Eddie Jones to surprise five volunteer rugby coaches with a coaching development masterclass to remember. Gift Aid Opportunities and Pitfalls for CASCs & Charities Webinar – Thursday 21 May – 7pm
This webinar will explore how clubs that are registered as CASCs or charities can maximise the use of gift aid on donations to raise much needed funds. Clubs such as Salisbury RFC and Dorking RFC have maximised the use of Gift Aid over the last ten years, with Salisbury raising over £25,000 and Dorking over £80,000. Rugby community doing great things
We’ve been amazed at the tremendous help our clubs are giving in the pandemic, whether raising funds for the NHS and other charities, supporting local foodbanks or sewing scrubs. Next week we’ll celebrate clubs like Gateshead, Burnham on Sea, Avonmouth and Ilkley, so please keep the great stories coming.
