Romsey RFC are saddened to announce that former Chairman John Lee has passed away.

John lost a brief but courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday 20th March.

John’s association with coaching at the club spanned from the minis through juniors culminating in coaching the senior teams. He watched and nurtured several the current 1st XV through their early rugby days and gave them the skills and determination to pursue rugby to senior level. During his playing days he was a dashing outside centre with an eye for an interception.

Three years ago, when the club found themselves without a Chairman, John stepped up into the void and steered the club into the position of strength that it currently finds itself in. John was a man for short sharp meetings who made decisions quickly and had the drive to ensure the club was always moving forward. He supported all areas of the club unstintingly and was a regular on the touch line at all levels.

John has given much time to Romsey RFC and he will be sadly missed but very fondly remembered.

Hampshire RFU send their condolences to John’s family and our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Sue and their two sons Rob and Alex and daughter Laura.

John Lee's funeral will take place on Thursday 11th April, 1.15 pm. at Romsey Abbey, Church Lane, SO51 8EP then onto the Royal British Legion, Love Lane, Romsey SO51 8DE.

You may be best parking at Alma Road Car Park (long stay) SO51 8BS which is closest to the Legion and walking the short distance to the Abbey but there are other car parks.
