HAMPSHIRE RFU COLTS LEAGUE REPORT (5 February 2017)
by Richard V Isaacs

A nine-try demolition from the unbeaten Hampshire RFU Colts League leaders Alton A over winless Tottonians has strengthened their grip at the helm of Division 1.

The unstoppable Black and Reds were as clinical as they have been all season, allowing eight players to make it onto the scoresheet but only Oliver Burden crossed more than once in the 57-12 triumph over the Water Lane side.

Burden scored twice and was joined by Daniel Androuliakos, Harry Cann, Oliver Fielder and Ashley Hamer as the hosts eased to 40 unanswered points in the first half before Daniel Napier, Matthew Pengilley and Harry Thomas rubbed salt into the wound and Cameron Hamer slotted six conversions.

Totts did see Leo Tongue and Charlie Gale go over for consolation scores and they refused to be overawed by the powerful North Hampshire men, who have stretched their lead at the top of the table to 11 points ahead of Winchester A, who came from behind to beat Havant 12-5 at Hooks Lane.

A try from Havant's Dougal Russel was the only score in a pulsating opening half before Charlie Walbridge ensured all the points headed to Winchester with two fine scores while Jesse Ribeiro added the extras to one of the tries.  They sit second ahead of Trojans, who have two games in a week in an attempt to haul in the leaders.

The two unbeaten sides in Division 2 went head-to-head and they kept their records in tact with a 'humdinger' of a game at the Goodship Ground, which finished in a 10-10 draw.

A Harry Willis-Finn penalty opened the scoring for the visitors before Gabe Williams just about got his hands down on the ball in time to push Andover into the interval lead only for Christian Brown to be the recipient of a wayward pass early in the second period and score under the posts which Willis-Finn improved for 'Milton.

However, Alex Arter finished off a fine move off the back of the line-out to pull the scores level and that's how it stayed with both sides keeping their unbeaten runs going.

The main benefactors of the result were Tadley Tigers, who jumped to the top of the table with a bonus point victory over third-placed Petersfield.

The Berkshire side scored five tries thanks to a brace from George Malone and singles from Connor Nash and Charlie Lutterloch as well as a penalty try that Reece Coker improved with the conversion while Petersfield had just Sebastian Kay's first-half penalty to raise their spirits in the 27-3 defeat.

The wet weather meant that the Forest derby between Ellingham and Ringwood and Fordingbridge was switched to the drier Recreation Ground and it was a good move for the E's, who claimed their first win of the season 26-19, also claiming a bonus point.

Craig Stevens and Henry Turner went over in the first half for E&R, both of which Will Jenkins added conversion for and the game continued to swing from side to side but Charlie Karelus and Jake Penrose's second half scores lifted their side off the bottom of the table and up to sixth place.
