HAMPSHIRE RUGBY

PRINCIPAL SPONSORS

The county U15 girls took on Berkshire in our last game of the programme at Hungerford RFC, writes Dean Lewis County Girls U15 Manager.

The county girls arrived ready for the last game and with a real emphasis on not getting caught out or cold in the first 10 minutes which had happened when they’d played Surrey in the previous game.

The game started at a fantastic pace and saw some great play by both sides, an even contest of fast flowing and competitive rugby.

Then Hampshire hit a purple patch at the 15 minute point with Georgia Lang scoring, then a t 18 mins Olivia Horton scoring, the Georgia Lang scoring and converting at the 22ndminute taking the score to 17-0 then Jasmyn Phelps starting her first game for the county scored from a crash over in the corner at the 25th minute score now 22-0.

All of the try’s so far had come from good team play, by engaging and clearing the rucks effectively backs and forwards then good accurate passing and excellent go forward superb play and team work.

All the way through this point Berkshire kept pressing towards the Hampshire line but the last pass and great defence kept them out real body on the line stuff by the players to keep the score sheet clean going into the half time break.

With changes made to start the 2nd half the game got under way Berkshire started them same as they had at the end of the 1st half really pressurising the Hampshire line.

It wasn’t until the 20th minute we broke the line and with good support play Olivia horton went over for 2nd try of the game.

This gave the players the confidence that we could break a very impressive defensive 2nd half display from Berkshire.

Hampshire now hit another purple patch with backs and forwards exchanging positions and passing accurate and timely passes that resulted in Alicia Maude (aka stumpy) to get the next try on the 24th minute.

We then decided we wanted to have a series of scrums to just to warm us up a bit on this sunny but windy and chilly afternoon.

Berkshire kept venturing near to the try line but with no reward.

As we approached the end of the game we had 3 quick try’s in succession 1st from Olivia Harrison from some good go forward and breaking through the line, then from the resulting restart Ava-Mae Seymour caught the ball and went straight back at Berkshire and broke the line and sprinted the distance and scored.

Obviously Berkshire hadn’t learnt from the last kick off and decided to kick it again to Ava-Mae who made great inroads again, from the subsequent ruck the backs attacked down the left wing and set up another ruck which was cleared and recycled quickly for the Mimi to pass the ball to the waiting Captain No8 Katie Cobbett to score the final try of the game and the 2017/17 county Under 15 girls programme.

Final score 47-0.

It was a difficult day for kicking and Georgia Lang was very close with all her conversion attempts

.

I am extremely grateful to all the players who put so much hard work into the programme this year and most of all the parents/guardians and chaperones for bringing the players to training and the fixtures.

The following players have represented the county this season.
