Trojans have kept hold of the top spot in the Hampshire RFU Colts League Cup Division but they came within just two points of shattering Havant’s two-season unbeaten record.

Havant eased into a 12-0 interval lead as Tim Russell and Oli May went over before Ed Connolly’s second-half double for the Stoneham Lane side brought them close but the missed conversions were crucial as that is all that separated the teams at full-time.

Up into third place are Jersey, who were comfortable 31-0 victors over winless Gosport and Fareham at Dolphin Crescent.

Euan Spencer crossed twice for the Channel Islanders while Nathan Thomas, Daniel Britain and Archie Duncan added further scores which Max Whelan improved with three conversions.

There was a comfortable win for Winchester, who moved menacingly into fourth ahead of Basingstoke, who they beat 47-12.

Dom Saville and Rob Moore both scored twice for the Black and Ambers, who were already 33-5 to the good by the break.  Theodore Hughes, Doug Wickes and Harry Johnstone, who was also in great form with the boot, converting six of the seven tries, did the damage.

Tries either side of the break for Ed King and Jack Saunders save Basingstoke their points with tries while Joe Campbell slotted an extra two points.

In the Bowl Division, it is a similar story with Tottonians standing just a point clear of New Milton and District, both of whom recorded wins.

Two tries from Leo Tongue and a third from George Lee, who also added a conversion – all in the first half - was enough for Totts to record a 17-0 victory over bottom side Portsmouth at Water Lane.

Unbeaten New Milton put their near neighbours Ellingham and Ringwood to the sword, scoring ten tries in a 60-5 triumph to put them narrowly in second place in the table, with a game in hand.

An outstanding performance from Finley Wood was the highlight for Milton as he grabbed four tries while Ollie Baker-Clipston and Sami Hattab secured a brace apiece.

Matt Gordon and Tom Friis-Habib completed the scoring while Dom Woodfines converted five of the tries.  Will Jenkins scored a consolation try for the E’s, who are fifth.

There was a cracking game at Andover as the home side held off a spirited fightback from Alton and just about held on, winning 27-24 to move into third place.

The hosts opened up a 22-5 interval lead as Ben Ciccotti scored twice and Josh Middleton and Charlie Horrell crossed while Edward Thomas went over for the visitors.

But Oliver Pratt, Brook Sanders and Joshua Samways brought the game within touching distance (Cameron Hamer converting two) before Ioan Gwynne Davies sealed the victory for the All Blacks.

There was just a single game in the Plate Divisions which saw Petersfield extend their lead at the top of the North Group with a 28-15 away day success at Overton.

The East Hampshire men are ten points clear after collecting their fourth win in a row when Joseph Heath, James Shirley, Harry Hirst and William Mathews, who converted all four of the tries, brought home the points.

Jack Thompson crossed twice for Overton in the second half to give them hope after Rhys Driver had gone over before the break.

The Colts League takes a break this weekend – bar one fixture - but returns for the final round of 2015 on Sunday 13 December.
