HAMPSHIRE RUGBY

PRINCIPAL SPONSORS

Hopes that Hampshire would make more progress in the County Championships were dashed by Dorset & Wilts on Saturday when they were beaten 29-11 at Swanage writes Brian Seeney.

"The score did not truly reflect the game," said manager Ed Neville.

"We were beaten up front by their two enormous props playing and were unable to get possession going forward. In those circumstances we did really well. All the team played with great heart and were a credit to Hampshire."

The home scored the opening try after a penalty kicked to the corner and a driving maul, but then Robbie Searle (Tottonians) replied with two penalties to give Hampshire a 5-6 lead which we held till the stroke of half time.

Another big scrum on Hampshire's five metre line ended in a Dorset & Wilts converted try.

From the start of the second half Hampshire pressurised the Dorset try line leading to a Dorset yellow card for killing the ball.

A quick tap went out wide where a deft off load from Toby Fricker (Southampton University) allowed Richard Buck ( Tottonians ) to score in the corner.

On the 25th minute a wild pass was intercepted on the half way line causing a Dorset & Wilts converted try and then with nine minutes to go Matt Hema (Guernsey) who was voted by man of the match Dorset, was sin binned for pulling back a support runner.

The penalty was kicked and in the last minute the home side added another converted try in the space left by only having 14 men.
