Charles Clark Alton RFCs President writes:

It is with the greatest personal regret that I have to inform you that Colin Pamplin passed away suddenly on Friday 6th February.  He was 79.

Colin started playing for the Club in the early sixties as a full back and went on to become Club Captain from 1962 to 1966.

He subsequently became Club Chairman and during his time in office, oversaw the building of the Clubhouse and its opening in 1974.

He was an Honourary Life Member of Alton RFC, one of only six club members to be awarded that title.

He was also a keen cricketer and played for Alton CC for many years. Golf was another of the sports he enjoyed playing.

Having run his own engineering business for many years, he retired to Cornwall.

However, he was a constant visitor to the Club enjoying the pre match lunches, watching the 1st XV and was also a regular attendee of the President's Ball.

He will be greatly missed by all those who had the good fortune to know him.

He was one of life's true gentlemen.

The Club send their heartfelt condolences to his family at this difficult time.

The funeral will take place at St Nicholas Church, Chawton, Alton on Thursday 26th February at 1:15 pm.

There will follow a private cremation. After the service, everyone is welcome back to Alton Rugby Football Club, Anstey Park, Alton, GU34 2NB, for refreshments, where the family will join them.

All male ARFC members please wear Club Ties at Colin's request.

No flowers please, but donations would be welcome to Cancer Research UK, c/o Charles Read & Daughter, 11-13 Turk Street, Alton, GU34 1AG. Please make you cheque out to Cancer Research UK, or go to Home and make a donation on line.
