Former Hampshire County and Winchester player Joe Marchant helped England U18s to a 28-6 win over Scotland and was amongst the try scorers.

Joe came through the Winchester Mini's & Juniors sections and Colts before moving to Harlequins.

England Under 18s kicked off a memorable day for English rugby.

Tries from Northampton Saints’ Roti Segun, Gloucester Rugby’s Sam Underhill, Leicester Tigers’ Charlie Thacker and Marchant set the platform for Head Coach John Fletcher’s side, as fly half Harry Mallinder added eight points with the boot.

Mallinder’s early penalty gave England an eleventh minute lead but Scotland levelled up through Adam Hastings.

Segun scored England’s opening try with 20 played but a second penalty from Hastings made it 8-6 before Mallinder scored his second three-pointer to make it 11-6 at the break.

England won the second half 17-0 as tries from BMW Man of the Match Underhill, Thacker and Marchant took the game beyond Scotland.

Fletcher said: “We were pleased to get the four tries but feel that there’s still a lot to work on. We made a few too many errors, but to be fair to Scotland – they more than played their part. We were pleased with the way the front row stepped up and our back three did well too.

“The bench added something when they came on, which was great, and we now focus on attention on playing Wales in a couple of weeks and performing well against them.”
