Hampshire Rugby Football Union has created the Hampshire School of Rugby, now renamed as the Hampshire Elite Player Training, under the auspices of Tim Allen, Club Hampshire's Rugby Director.


It is not part of the County Representative Teams set up so players may be involved in one or the other or both, please note that there are now no County Teams at U14s.



We are holding Hampshire Elite Player Training (HEPT – was known as Hampshire DPP)Trials 

at HMS Temeraire Burnaby Road Portsmouth facility from 1830 hrs until about 2000hrs.

To clarify;- it is for the rising age groups next season
i.e. the U13s U14s and U15s in situ in September 2017


Clubs and Schools should only nominate up to a max of 5 candidates for each age group,

unless they have prior agreement with the Rugby Director.


In recent years the number of player trialling has meant that the Assessors had an impossible job to see all the candidates - its hoped this will mean the top individuals can be seen properly.


Schools should only nominate from non Club players please.

Once Preregistered the candidates will NOT hear anything else


 ... UNLESS the venue or times change

and are just to turn up at the above location.


Current HEPT players do NOT need to re register for trial.


Candidates attending who are not preregistered will not be able to join in September but will be permitted to retrial in January 2018


Trialists will be assessed in these areas:


Show Mental Toughness: Work rate, Confidence and Coach-ability.

Physical Attributes: Strength, Agility, Speed, Balance and Coordination.

Game Understanding: Spatial awareness, Decision Making, Vision, Evasion, and Creativity.

Game Play: Timing of the pass, Accuracy of the pass, Appropriate pass, Receiving the pass and length of pass.

Athletes from other sports should be considered in your nominations.




Sessions run on a weekly basis of the school term, at each centre. Farnborough at Farnborough RFC, Perins at Perins School in Alresford, Toynbee at Toynbee School in Chandlers Ford, Temeraire at HMS Temeraire at Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight.


All training is held under lights.


Kit required: All players should wear trainers and bring boots with the exception of Toynbee where moulded boots (but no normal rugby boots are allowed) are an option on their all weather pitch. Normal training kit is required and changing facilities at all centres is available. Hampshire Kit is available on line at HRFU Website, it is not compulsory.


Fees are now £130.00 per term (2 terms) -  Fees payable (cash, cheques, BACS) to HRFU Ltd. collected and recorded by the Managers at each Centre. Please ask the centre manager for BACS details for payments.
